When you walk around the ground of Baya Elementary School here in the heart of Ragay Camarines Sur, you'll often see groups of children in neat uniforms - some in khaki and blue, others in green and white-marching in step, reciting promises, and helping one another with bright, eager smiles. There are our Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) and Girls Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) members, and they are more than just students in uniform: they are future leaders, our peacemakers, and our community's hope.
More Than Just a School Activity
For our learners, scouting is far more than a weekly meeting or a school requirement. It is a journey of discovery. At Baya Elementary School, we believe that education happens not just inside the four walls of a classroom, but also outdoors, in action, and through service. Our BSP and GSP program is designed to teach life skills that textbooks alone cannot fully explain discipline, teamwork, resilience, respect, and responsibility.
Every meeting, every campfire, and every community task becomes a lesson in character. when a Scouts ties a knot, set up a tent, or leads a game for younger pupils, they are not just learning a skill - they are building confidence. when they clean the school grounds, assist during school programs, or help a classmate in need, they are living out the Scout Law: A scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent."
Activities That shape Hearts and Minds
Through the school year, our Scouts take part in activities that challenge and inspire them. From investiture ceremonies where they proudly make their scout promise, to jamboree and campouts under the stars, every moment is filled with learning. They learn first aid and safety, map reading and nature conservation, and most importantly -how to work together despite differences.
we also bring scouting beyond our school gates. Our scouts join community clean-ups, tree planting activities, and outreach programs around our barangay. They learn that being a good citizen begins with small acts of kindness and service to others. these experiences plant deep roots: our learners grow up knowing they have a role to play in making their community better.
Impact That Lasts a Lifetime
The true value of BSP & GSP at Baya Elementary School is seen not just in badges earned or ribbons won, but in the change in our learners. Quiet children find their voice. Impulsive learners learn patience. Every scout discovers that they are capable of leading- and that leadership means serving other first.
Parents often tell us how their children have become more helpful at home, more respectful to elders, and more conscious of keeping their surrounding clean. Teachers see it too: Scouts are more active in class, more willing to help classmates, and more mindful of rules and fairness. These are the lessons that stay with them long after they leave our school. They carry these values into high school, into their future careers, and into their own families.
A Shared Journey
None of this would be possible without the support of our school administration, dedicated scouting leaders, supportive parents, and the entire community of Ragay District 1. Together, we create a safe, encouraging space where every child can grow into the best version of themselves.
As we continue this journey at Baya Elementary School, we are proud to say: Scouting works here. It builds stronger learners, stronger families, and a stronger community. To our scouts- keep marching, keep helping, and keep believing in the good you can do. The world needs leaders like you
